Two Shops
Forged and Refined by Quality and Value
Offering consumers quality and value, the ability to adapt
with the times, and the opportunity to take advantage of new trends are
traits that the Intelligencer Printing Company shares with many of its
customers. The quintessence of this kind of Intell customer is Fortunoff,
the gigantic department store complex.
When Max and Clara Fortunoff opened as a Brooklyn neighborhood
housewares store in 1922, they overwhelmed customers by the quality of
the merchandise, the quality of service and the everyday low prices. Those
attributes have become the hallmarks of the company and not only turned
the store into a Brooklyn landmark, but soon led to eight Fortunoff shops
located under the elevated subway on Livonia Avenue.
In 1964, Fortunoff observed its customersí migration to the
suburbs and set up shop in a new superstore in Westbury, Long Island.
Today, Fortunoff provides customers with four floors of lifeís necessities
and niceties, such as jewelry, gifts, home furnishings and seasonal shops
all under one roof.
Twenty-six years ago, Fortunoff opened its doors on East 57th
Street in Manhattan with a shop devoted to the finer things in life: jewelry
and silver. That store was replaced in 1979 with an elegant new jewelry
and silver store on posh Fifth Avenue and 54th Street. This store boasts
some of the most impressive pieces of antique and estate silver in the
world.
According to Arlene Putterman, vice president, public relations,
"Fortunoff has also followed shoppers to New Jersey where it has
made its mark with three stores. We opened our first store in Paramus
in the fall of 1974. Eight years later, a second full-line operation was
opened in Wayne Towne Center, and in 1989 a superstore was launched in
Woodbridge Center."
Fortunoff prides itself on special consumer services, like
its Bridal and Gift Registry that provides friends and relatives with
a continually updated computer printout of the coupleís gift preferences.
Intellís abilities figure into play in this service as it is the printer
of a 44-page, four-color catalog that graphically displays the wares of
Fortunoff, along with free-standing inserts and smaller product brochures.
"Intell has become one of our premier printers,"
says Ms. Putterman, "because they provide our company with a quality
product, meet our tight deadlines and efficiently handle store distribution.
As we take great pride in providing our customers with excellent service,
itís a pleasure to work with a company that stands by the same commitment."
