Armstrong Ceiling
About Armstrong
Armstrong is a global leader in the design and manufacture of floors, ceilings and cabinets. The company's commitment to sustainability starts at the top and runs through the entire organization. In fact, Armstrong supports a host of programs designed to protect the environment and use resources responsibly. They offer an online ecoScorecard that allows customers to search, evaluate and document a product's environmental attributes. And even its corporate headquarters is LEED-EB Platinum Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The Challenge
In keeping with its environmental mission, Armstrong was looking for a printer willing to help reduce the environmental impact of creating a mammoth product 250-page Specifier's Reference catalog. Armstrong already had a company mandate to print all digital and offset projects on FSC-certified paper, but the company wanted to take that effort to the next level—by proving they were offsetting their environmental footprint.
The Solution
Intelligencer had already started to purchase wind energy credits to offset our electricity use, and we were able to show Armstrong that we could reduce the carbon footprint of its catalog by 18,500 pounds of CO2 emissions—because there are absolutely no CO2 emissions in wind-power generation. The fact that Intell could measure the impact of printing the Armstrong Ceiling catalog on the environment was the deciding factor.
The Result
"We may have used wind-energy credits and FSC-certified paper, but that didn't change our expectations for quality. I have to say that the color reproduction in this catalog is the best we've ever had."
